There are approximately 100 million women in the United States...
350,000 of them will be victimized this year as a result of domestic abuse...
and that's in New York City alone!

The African American Planning Commission is pleased to showcase Serenity House Family Residence, a transitional residence dedicated to providing safe, alternative housing to survivors of domestic violence and their dependent children in New York City -- families who would otherwise roam homeless on our streets or worse yet, have to return home to their abusers.

Domestic violence is a major problem in our society. Women, children and even some men suffer abuse in silence daily, all accross the country. Every 15 seconds, somewhere in the United States, an act of domestic violence is committed. Every 3 minutes, in New York State, one person is victimized by physical violence, 20 every hour, 432 every day and 157,680 every year.

In New York City, domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women, and every week, at least 4 women are killed. For more information about AAPCI.org's Serenity House Family Residence, please visit us online at Serenity House Family Residence.

You can also help the African American Planning Commission by encouraging your family; friends, coworkers and colleagues to make tax-exempt financial contributions toward our domestic violence prevention campaigns. Permanent supportive housing has been identified by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and by the U.S. Justice Department as one of the best, safe alternatives for survivors of domestic violence and their dependent children.

Edwin's Place Family Residence will represent the African American Planning Commission's efforts to develop permanent supportive housing for homeless families living with AIDS, and you can be part of the great effort to make this project a reality. The New York City Department of Health (DoH) estimates that approximately 200,000 New Yorkers are HIV positive, about one in every 50 residents. Current projections suggest that an additional 5,000 to 10,000 persons a year will become HIV positive in NYC over the course of the next five years. As new treatments continue to change the face of the AIDS epidemic and extend the lives of people with the disease, vacancies in the current stock of units are decreasing astronomically, further straining the availability of existing apartments for those in need.

Be a part of the solution by making a tax-deductible financial donation toward AAPCI's Edwin's Place Family Residence development campaign. Our secure credit card server is powered by Guidestar and setup by Network for Good. All personal and credit card information are protected and kept private. Click here to view our Privacy Policy.

If you prefer, you may shop on behalf of a cause and we will direct 100% of our standard retailer's affiliate fee to the capital development campaign... At No Extra Cost To You.

You can also help the African American Planning Commission by encouraging your family; friends, coworkers and colleagues to donate toward our Edwin's Place Family Residence development campaign. The NYC HIV/AIDS Services Adminstration (HASA) has identified permanent supportive housing as the most critical and urgent need for homeless families living with AIDS in New York City.

ALL Donations and ALL "Affiliate Fees" go to further the Mission of the African American Planning Commission.
