Advocates Urged to Support Stimulus Package

Advocates of human services are being urged to call Senators Charles Schumer and Kirstin Gillibrand to express support for the Federal Stimulus package.

"Apparently domestic program funding is in serious trouble," said Allison Sesso, Deputy Executive Director of the Human Services Council of NYC in an email to members yesterday. "Senators are getting calls in opposition to funding for domestic social programs at a rate of 100:1. We need to voice our support for these programs NOW!."

The message, says Sesso, is that Senators need to "stand strong on funding for human service programs in the Economic Recovery bill. Our State needs the jobs that will be saved; our people need its protections against hunger, sickness, and unemployment. We need to rebuild our schools and roads. Vote for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and make sure funding for domestic programs is a priority."

Gillibrand's only contact number is reportedly 202-224-4451.

Schumer can be reached through a number of office telephone numbers including:

  • NYC 212-486-4430
  • Albany 518-431-4070
  • Binghamton 607-772-6792
  • Buffalo 716-846-4111
  • Red Hook 845-758-9741
