The Nature Conservancy is the world’s leading conservation organization, working in all 50 states and more than 33 countries. Founded in 1951, the mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. The Policy Associate supports The Nature Conservancy's conservation goals by serving as liaison and informational contact between The Nature Conservancy and federal, state, county and local governments and private organizations. S/he helps develop strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, conservation organizations, and industry to advance the Conservancy’s conservation agenda. The Policy Associate provides research and analysis in support of TNC’s policy priorities and tracks legislation and initiatives that directly affect The Nature Conservancy's conservation goals. S/he assists the Conservancy’s efforts to influence the outcome of legislative, planning, and policy initiatives at the federal, state, county, and municipal levels. Duties include regular contact with policy makers and government officials to promote the Conservancy's policy agenda, ensuring that all actions taken comply with State and federal lobbying laws and regulations, and assisting in the development and implementation of strategies to achieve the Conservancy's public funding goals. The Policy Associate may also help develop and implement programs to engage TNC’s trustees, members and volunteers in support of policy objectives. The Director of Government Relations reports to the Senior Policy Advisor and may supervise staff and volunteers.

Qualifications:
|
• Bachelor’s degree in political science, environmental policy or other relevant field and 3 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience researching and compiling information from divergent sources and presenting research results to diverse audiences.
• Experience with legislative, planning, and policy initiatives at the federal, state, county, or municipal levels.
• Experience writing and editing policy-related materials.
• Experience presenting to and communicating with government or legislative staff and/or program leadership.
• Experience with MS Office, Word, Excel and navigating the Internet. Database management experience preferred.
