Then they also will answer Him saying, "Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You? Then He will answer them saying, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me . . . Matthew 25:45-46 |

The Penny Harvest Roundtable Program - Making a significant contribution to NYC’s nonprofits.
The Penny Harvest program believes that the moral and civic development of children is everyone’s responsibility. As a community-based non-profit, the African American Planning Commission sees itself playing an especially critical role for Penny Harvest students: we educate them about our programs and services and ignite their passion for community service and their zeal to help others.
Every year, Penny Harvest students collect pennies and make cash grants totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars to various organizations. In addition, many students choose to lend a hand and volunteer their time to help.
Last year, hundreds of organizations across the country were awarded Penny Harvest grants. This year, the African American Planning Commission was once again, thankfully, selected.
Remember: each grant or inquiry from a group of students represents an opportunity for us to teach children about our cause and introduce them to our organization. We form relationships with Penny Harvest schools by presenting to students, hosting students on site visits, and/or providing volunteer opportunities.
Over the last three years, the African American Planning Commission has been a recipient of cash grants from the following schools:

I wanted to take this opportunity, not only to thank and acknowledge the students and Roundtable Table Coaches for their generosity, but to also introduce Common Cents’ Penny Harvest program to would-be participant organizations.
Grants awarded to our organization made it possible for us to provide book bags, pens, pencils, emergency food, recreation activities, bus tours and fun trips to many of our shelter residents who would not otherwise be able to afford the cost of visiting various sites within and outside New York City.
It is our belief that every child should have an opportunity to visit another city outside their home State, see how other people live, and be provided the opportunity to mingle with their peers.
About Common Cents:
Common Cents is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to build informed, capable, and caring communities by igniting the civic spirit of a new generation. The Penny Harvest, Common Cents’ signature program, gives our youngest citizens the knowledge, tools and power to strengthen their communities through philanthropy, service, and civic action. The model is simple and effective: children gather pennies, make grants and take action. The results are extraordinary: annually children make hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants to protect the young and the elderly, support disaster relief and fight disease and defend the environment and human rights.
The Penny Harvest currently operates in NYC/Metro NY; the Capital Region of NY; Colorado; Nashville, TN; Florida; and Seattle, WA as well as select individual schools across the country. Common Cents provides program tools, curriculum, professional development, as well as ongoing logistical and programmatic support to each participating school to ensure the Penny Harvest is a rich experience in service-learning and civic education for all students.
